    Wash

Before you get started, start by covering plants and other objects that are sensitive to chemicals. Then it’s time to start washing the facade!

Start by spraying an algae and mould remover on the facade if necessary, or brush the wall with a facade cleaner diluted with water. Use a washing brush to make sure you get rid of tough stains. For more ergonomic work and longer reach, attach the brush to an extension pole. Then finish by rinsing the facade with clean water.

    Scrape

Then it’s time to start scraping the facade. But before you start, be sure to cover up the ground and other sensitive areas.

Then, to know where and how much you need to scrape, you can cut a grid pattern on the wall. In places where the paint comes off, scrape it off. Make sure you scrape off any loose paint in even strokes. This keeps the scraper sharper for longer and reduces the risk of pulling flakes loose. Use an extension pole or ladder to access higher up the wall.

There are several types of scrapers for facades. Here you can compare them and choose the best one for your project: tools for scraping facades.

Note! If you find rotten wood when scraping, replace it before painting. Also make sure to roughen and smooth out any paint that remains with wire brushes.

    Tip!

Hit the hammerhead on the nail. If you have nail heads sticking out, they can easily be driven in with the hammer head of the scraper.

    Sand and fill in

Once you have washed and scraped the facade, you will need to remove any flakes in the wood with sanding paper. Also make sure to fill in any gaps, screw holes and irregularities with latex joint. Otherwise, moisture can penetrate and cause the wood to rot.
