    Prep work

    N
ails often stick up on wooden floors and mouldings. Drive the nails under the wood surface with a mandrel – a cone-shaped metal tool with a blunt end.

    Washing
Thoroughly wash all surfaces with a detergent, make sure you also wash the corners and edges. Let dry.

    Scrape
Use a scraper to scrape away any unevenness or loose paint.

    Tip!

The grinding process carries a large amount of fine dust. Tape the gaps in the doors that do not need to be used.

Then sand the surface to make the paint adhere better. Make a “dust lock” of construction plastic at the exit you are going to use to prevent the dust from spreading to the rest of the home. Then wipe the surfaces completely clean with a microfiber cloth.

  2. 2

    Knot varnish

Apply knot varnish to any knots with a brush. The knot varnish prevents the knots from bleeding through the paint after some time. Then fill in any imperfections and nail holes. Let the knot varnish dry.

    Spackle

Then apply another coat of varnish, this time also to varnished knots. Wipe the surfaces clean.

Now mask along the mouldings and frames with masking tape.

    Painting

Start painting the floor along the skirting boards with a brush. An angled paintbrush gives a good ergonomic angle.

Then use a roller to paint the larger areas. Use a extension pole to save time and your back. Work with your back towards the exit, so you don’t paint yourself into a corner.

Paint the number of times recommended by the paint manufacturer. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before moving furniture into place. Wipe the floor and enjoy your beautiful new floor.

    Tip!

If you absolutely have to step on the paint before it dries, a couple of plastic bags and some tape can be cheap protective footwear. Just be careful not to slip!
